ఈ ప్రపంచలోకి వచ్చిన 16 సంవత్సరాలుకే క్రీడా జగత్తుకి పరిచయమయిన సచిన్, కెరీర్ ఆరంభంలోనే పాకిస్థాన్, వెస్టిండీస్ వంటి దేశాలతో ఆడి అప్పటి అరివీరభయంకర ఫాస్ట్ బౌలర్ల భరతం పట్టిన చిచ్చరపిడుగుగా క్రికెట్ అభిమానుల గుండెల్లో దూరిపోయాడు. ఫామ్ తో సంబంధం లేకుండా పాత రికార్డులు తిరగరాస్తూ, క్రొత్త రికార్డులు పుట్టిస్తూ పరుగుల వరద పారిస్తున్నాడు. అత్యధిక మ్యాచ్ లు, అత్యధిక సెంచరీలు, అత్యధిక హాఫ్ సెంచరీలు, అత్యధిక మ్యాన్ ఆఫ్ ద మ్యాచ్ లు, మ్యాన్ ఆఫ్ ద సిరీస్ లు ఇలా చెప్పుకుంటూ వెళ్లడం కంటే, క్రికెట్ లో ఉన్న అన్ని వ్యక్తిగత రికార్డులు అని ఒక్క ముక్కలో తేల్చేయడం తేలికేమో. అతని అవార్డులు, రికార్డులు పర్వతాల్లా పేరుకుపోతే, అతని అభిమానులు సంద్రంలా ఉప్పొంగుతుంటారు. సాధారణ రిక్షావాలా మొదలు దేశాధినేతల వరకూ అతని అభిమానగణంలో కొలువుతీరిన వారే.
నాణానికి ఒకవైపు అతని ఆటతీరైతే రెండోవైపు అతని వ్యక్తిత్వం. “నేను దేవుడిని చూసాను, అతను భారత్ బ్యాటింగ్ చేస్తున్నప్పుడు నాలుగవ నంబరు ఆటగాడిగా బరిలోకి దిగుతాడు” అని ఆస్ట్రేలియా క్రికెట్ దిగ్గజం హెడెన్, సచిన్ అద్భుత ఆటతీరు ముందు మోకరిల్లినా, “క్రికెట్ మతమైతే, సచిన్ దేవుడు” అని క్రికెట్ అభిమానులు తమ ఆరాధ్య క్రికెటర్ ని కీర్తించినా, కోట్లాదిమంది వెలకట్టలేని అభిమానం అతనిని ఆకాశంలో నిలబెట్టినా, సచిన్ మాటల్లో కాని, నడవడిలో కాని కించిత్ అహంకారం కూడా కానరాదు. ముంబాయిలోని సామాజిక సేవాసంస్థ అప్నాలయ ద్వారా అనేకమంది అనాథలకు విద్యతో పాటు ఆహారం, వసతి కల్పిస్తున్నాడు. తండ్రికిచ్చిన మాటకోసం కోట్లు కుమ్మరిస్తామన్నా మత్తుపానీయాలకు ప్రచారకర్తగా వ్యవహరించనన్నాడు. తన నివాస భవన నిర్మాణ సమయంలో చుట్టుప్రక్కలవారికి కలిగే ఇబ్బందిని దృష్టిలో ఉంచుకుని “నిర్మాణ సమయంలో వచ్చే శబ్ధాల వలన మీకు కలిగే ఇబ్బందికి నన్ను మన్నించండి. మీ కుటుంబంలో ఒకడిగా మారబోతున్న నాకోసం ఓర్పు వహించండి” అని వినయంగా స్వదస్తూరీతో సంతకం చేసి పంపిన లేఖలు అతని హృదయ వైశాల్యానికి నిలువెత్తు ఉదాహరణలు.
అటువంటి ఉన్నత వ్యక్తిత్వం కారణంగానే, బాల్ ట్యాంపరింగ్ వివాద సమయంలో జాతి యావత్తూ అతనికి అండగా నిలబడింది. క్రికెట్ ఎల్బో గాయం కారణంగా, ఆటనుండి శాశ్వతంగా వైదొలగక తప్పదనుకున్నప్పుడు అతనికోసం ప్రార్థనలు చేసింది. భారతావని అతనిని పద్మశ్రీ, పద్మవిభూషణ్ అవార్డులతో సగౌరవంగా సత్కరించింది. నిజానికి సచిన్ అవార్డులతో కొలవడానికి సాధ్యంకాని అసలు సిసలు భారతరత్నం. అసామాన్య క్రీడానైపుణ్యం, అద్భుత వ్యక్తిత్వం మూర్తీభవించిన అతను యువతకు ఆదర్శప్రాయుడు. వయసు మళ్ళినవారికి ప్రేమ, వాత్సల్యం కురిపించడానికి అర్హమైన ఒక సొంత మనీషి. ఒకే వాక్యంలో చెప్పాలంటే, అతను.. ప్రపంచానికి ఒక సందేశాత్మక భారత రాయబారి.

MUMBAI, JUNE 02, 2011: SACHIN Tendulkar, the man whose prowess with the bat has allowed him to enter history books as a cricketer, establishing world records in this game, is now officially declared to be an artist, for the purpose of paying tax. Or should we say for the purpose of claiming the deduction on his foreign income.
This world famous cricketer had shown gross receipts of Rs. 19.95 crore from sports sponsorships and advertisements, of which Rs. 5.92 crore was received in foreign exchange from ESPN Star Sports, PepsiCo Inc and VISA. The cricketer had claimed a deduction on the foreign exchange component under section 80RR amounting to Rs. 1.77 crore.
Section 80RR is one of the deductions under Chapter VIA which allows professionals including author or playwright, artist, musician, actor or sportsman, to avail of a deduction ranging from 15 to 65 per cent on their professional income from foreign sources, subject to certain conditions. But to enjoy the deduction, the assessee must satisfy the main condition that the income from foreign sources was earned in the exercise of his profession.
For Sachin Tendulkar to enjoy this deduction, it was claimed that his profession was sports sponsorship and modelling. It was also claimed that he was not a professional cricketer and income from playing cricket was shown as ‘income from other sources.’ The Revenue department had been allowing him this deduction for several years now.
But now, this spirited if slightly audacious faceless assessing officer, did not want to do so. So he also compared the time spent by Sachin Tendulkar in the ‘main’ profession of being an actor vis-à-vis being a non-professional cricketer. This bold assessing officer noted that the endorsement and advertisement agreements signed by Sachin Tendulkar, required him to spend only one or two days in a year on these activities. These agreements also contained a termination clause whereby the deal was off if the assessee stopped playing cricket. The AO did not allow the deduction. Even at the next level of appeal the assessing officer’s order was upheld.
However, in appeal before the Tribunal, Mr R.K.Panda delivered the order last Friday allowing Sachin to claim the 80RR deduction.
The Tribunal held that the assessee, while appearing in advertisements and commercials, had to face lights and camera. No doubt, being a successful cricketer, had added to his brand value as a model but the fact was that as a model, the assessee had to bring to his work a degree of imagination, creativity and skill. Every sportsman did not possess that degree of talent or skill or creativity. Therefore income received by the assessee from modelling and appearing in T.V. commercials and similar activities could be termed as income derived from the profession of “an artist”. The assessee could have more than one profession. Therefore, income derived by the assessee in the exercise of his profession as an artist was entitled to deduction under section 80RR.”
This clearly shows the moral character of sachin.
So he may be a great palyer, but dont make or believe him to be paragon of virtue or god.
